Heroes - Crash

Well I was moving at the speed of sound.
Head-spinning, couldn't find my way around, and
Didn't know that I was going down.
Yeah, yeah.
Where I've been, well it's all a blur.
What I was looking for, I'm not sure.
Too late and didn't see it coming.
Yeah, yeah.

And then I crashed into you,
And I went up in flames.
Could've been the death of me,
But then you breathed your breath in me.
And I crashed into you,
Like a runaway train.
You will consume me,
But I can't walk away.

Somehow, I couldn't stop myself.
I just wanted to know how it felt.
Too strong, I couldn't hold on.
Yeah, yeah.
Now I'm just tryin' to make some sense
Out of how and why this happened.
Where we're heading, there's just no knowing.
Yeah, yeah.

And then I crashed into you,
And I went up in flames.
Could've been the death of me,
But then you breathed your breath in me.
And I crashed into you,
Like a runaway train.
You will consume me,
But I can't walk away.

From your face, your eyes
Are burning to me.
You saved me, you gave me
Just what I need.
Oh, just what I need.

And then I crashed into you,
And I went up in flames.
Could've been the death of me,
But then you breathed your breath in me.
And I crashed into you,
Like a runaway train.
You will consume me,
But I can't walk away.

And then I crashed into you,
And then I crashed into you,
And then I crashed into you,
And then I crashed into you,
And I crashed into you,
Like a runaway train.
You will consume me,
But I can't walk away.

Barenaked Ladies - Be My Yoko Ono (Video)

If there's someone you can live without, then do so. And if there's someone you can just shove out, do so.

You can be my Yoko Ono
You can follow me wherever I go.
Be my, be my, be my Yoko Ono.

Isn't it beautiful to see two people so much in love? Barenaked as two virgins hand in hand and hand and hand in glove. Now that I'm far away it doesn't seem to me to be such a pain to have you hanging off my ankle like some kind of ball and chain.

Oh no, here we go, our life is just one big pun.
Oh no, here we go as Yoko sings
Aieee!

I know that when I say this
I may be stepping on pins and needles, but I don't like all these people slagging her for breaking up the Beatles. (Don't blame it on Yokey!)
If I was John and you were Yoko,
I would gladly give up musical genius, just to have you as my very own, personal Venus.

Kids!

Here's the conversation I had with my 3rd grader this evening:

3G: Mom, I want to start doing chores. What can I do to help you?
ME: Well, honey, you can unload the dishwasher, that would be a big help.
3G: Okay. How much does that pay?

Is it discrimination?

I have recently read/heard on the news and in conversations with friends and colleagues that employers don't want to hire people who smoke and/or are overweight because the health insurance coverage for these individuals is higher. Well, that seems logical. Isn't it in an employer's best interest to be fiscally responsible? Is it really unfair for employers to want to protect their bottom line? If I'm running a business, isn't the whole point for it to be profitable? Employees are hired based on what they can bring to the table; if they are costing the company more than they can produce then it makes sense to me that it would limit their employability.

Is it really discrimination? Could one argue that if an employer can only afford so much for healthcare coverage and the coverage is, therefore, limited because of the predisposition of a few employees, i.e. smokers and overweight people, that it is unfair to healthy, non-smoking employees because more coverage would be available to them if not for their "at risk" colleagues? I don't know if that's the case . . . I just wonder about these things.

Here are a few articles I found interesting . . .

For the love of Pop Tarts

I had an extraordinarily crazy start to my day. It seemed everything that could go wrong, did go wrong. I did finally make it out of the house . . . late . . . and managed to make it to work on time, but just barely. I put coffee on and went through the usual routine of turning on my computer, printing my daily tasks, etc. Then, I pulled magic from my purse in the form of Pop Tarts. Amidst all the chaos this morning, I managed to grab the last packet of Brown Sugar & Cinnamon goodness from the pantry to enjoy with my coffee . . . should I survive and actually get to the coffee part of my morning . . .
I prepared my cup of coffee while I waited for the toaster to turn my packet of Pop Tarts into the lightly browned, warm superbness I needed to turn my day around.
Let me tell you, it worked like a charm! I enjoyed every single amazing bite and I feel so much better now!

Viva Le Pop Tarts!

Acoustic #3

"They press their lips against you and you love the lies they say"

Oh, how I love the Goo Goo Dolls . . .

Maybe I'm just angry . . .

In my constant quest to figure out what the hell is wrong with me (because it couldn't possibly be the whole rest of the world that's crazy . . . ) I was reading an article regarding anger managment published by the American Psychological Association, which I found to be quite interesting . . . well, you know, for a bunch of psycho-babble . . .

Here is an excerpt I found particularly fascinating:

According to Jerry Deffenbacher, PhD, a psychologist who specializes in anger management, some people really are more "hotheaded" than others are; they get angry more easily and more intensely than the average person does. There are also those who don't show their anger in loud spectacular ways but are chronically irritable and grumpy. Easily angered people don't always curse and throw things; sometimes they withdraw socially, sulk, or get physically ill. People who are easily angered generally have what some psychologists call alow tolerance for frustration, meaning simply that they feel that they should not have to be subjected to frustration, inconvenience, or annoyance. They can't take things in stride, and they're particularly infuriated if the situation seems somehow unjust: for example, being corrected for a minor mistake.
What makes these people this way? A number of things. One cause may be genetic or physiological: There is evidence that some children are born irritable, touchy, and easily angered, and that these signs are present from a very early age. Another may be sociocultural. Anger is often regarded as negative; we're taught that it's all right to express anxiety, depression, or other emotions but not to express anger. As a result, we don't learn how to handle it or channel itconstructively. Research has also found that family background plays a role. Typically, people who are easily angered come from families that are disruptive, chaotic, and not skilled at emotional communications.

Burnin' For You - Blue Oyster Cult

Time everlasting
Time to play B-sides
Time ain't on my side

I don't have any Blue Oyster Cult in my collection. I think I need to get some.

I kinda like that Sarkozy guy . . .

At the UN General Assembly today, according to the International Herald Tribune, French President, Nicolas Sarkozy said: "There will be no peace in the world if the international community falters in the face of nuclear arms proliferation." He was also quoted as saying, "Weakness and renunciation do not lead to peace. They lead to war."

Helloooooooo . . . this is not new information . . . this, it seems to me, is just plain common sense . . .

The United States has been criticized in the past for such views . . .

. . . . but maybe if France says it, they'll listen . . .

Oh My God, I'm Gonna Die!

Lack of sleep may be deadly, research shows

" . . . consistently sleeping around seven hours per night is optimal for health."

I can't tell you the last time I got at least seven hours of sleep. It was probably back in the eighties. This could explain my frequent headaches, my mood swings, and my generally irritable disposition.

So, there you have it. I'm gonna die. And on my journey to my demise, I will be horribly cranky and difficult to deal with from lack of sleep.

I think . . . maybe . . . I should . . . yeah . . . I better . . . go to bed.

Goodnight.

What Women Want

While perusing The New York Times this morning, I came across an article entitled Putting Money on The Table. The point of the article was that many young women these days are making more money, often more than their male counterparts, and how their dating lives are being affected under those circumstances.

After reading the article, however, I began to reflect on how, as women, we really want it all. Is it possible for us to ever truly be happy? What we want is impossible to achieve. If we're being honest with ourselves, we want a man who makes more money than we do, despite the fact that most women will tell you it really doesn't matter how much he makes.

Oh yeah, I went there.

We want someone who will pick up the check, take care of us, buy us little gifts so we know they are thinking about us . . . but not feel threatened if we happen to make more money . . .

We don't want a glass ceiling, we don't want anyone to stop us from achieving our goals, but we always want our man to be someone we can be proud of, personally and professionally. Professionally speaking, that usually means a step or two up the ladder from us.

What we want is a man who will be there to support us emotionally, be sensitive to our physical, mental, and emotional needs, be around to help with the housework, the yardwork, and the kids . . . not someone who works long hours and is never home . . . BUT . . . we still want them to earn that big paycheck . . . which often means long hours and little time at home . . .

It's no wonder they can't figure us out . . .

Consultation Fees

A lawyer's dog, running around town unleashed, heads for a butcher shop and steals a roast. The butcher goes to the lawyer's office and asks, "if a dog running unleashed steals a piece of meat from my store, do I have a right to demand payment for the meat from the dog's owner?"

The lawyer answers, "Absolutely."

"Then you owe me $8.50. Your dog was loose and stole a roast from me today."

The lawyer, without a word, writes the butcher a check for $8.50. The butcher, having a feeling of satisfaction, leaves.

Three days later, the butcher finds a bill from the lawyer: $100 due for a consultation.

Keep your eye on this guy . . .

I don't usually post political stuff, but I thought this was really interesting . . .

If he doesn't get himself killed, Saif al-Islam el-Qaddafi just may be Lybia's saviour. He will certainly garner the support of the West with his ideals, but he may have a hard time convincing his own . . .

Waiting for Laundry

Well, I'm tired. I'm ready to go to bed, but I started a load of laundry and need to wait for it to finish so I can put it in the dryer before I go to bed. Why did I start a load of laundry this late? I had actually intended to start it a little earlier, but when I got home this evening I discovered that my silly little dog pulled all the stuffing out of his bed. It was a huge mess . . . stuffing all over the back yard . . . and it needed to be cleaned up, which took about 45 minutes. So now, here I am, waiting . . . waiting . . . waiting . . .

So, while I wait, I'm watching the movie Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason . . . which is pretty funny . . . and typing this completely useless blog post.

I'm just bored . . . and apparently don't really have anything intelligent to say . . . still 50 minutes left on the washer . . . Bridget Jones is pretty funny, though . . . see what happens when you date a lawyer . . . hahaha . . .

40 minutes left on the washer . . . an hour left of Bridget Jones . . . and I can't think of anything else to write . . .

Goodnight.

The craziest thing . . .

In my whole life, I have never had any trouble being alone . . . in fact, in the past I have enjoyed my quiet time quite a lot. When I was in high school, I would take the longest possible route home after school just to collect myself before going home. When I was in college, I used to stop at the mall on my way home from work; not to shop, just to have some alone time before going home to my roommates. I could spend hours walking around, watching people, pondering important issues like crime and punishment, welfare reform, or what I was going to wear the next day (haha).

Today, though, has been hard. I spent part of yesterday cleaning my house, doing laundry, making beds . . . and now that those things are done, well, I don't really know what to do with myself. I watched a little football today, watched part of the NASCAR race, then went out for a little while . . . shopped a bit, had some dinner, got coffee and read a book. There was a time, not all that long ago, when that would have sounded to me like the PERFECT day! And it was very relaxing, don't get me wrong . . . but I think there is such a thing as too much alone time . . . and I certainly reached that point today . . . it's 9 o'clock and I'm considering just going to bed because I've run out of things to do . . .

I need a hobby . . . seriously!
